Evolving from deep self-exploration, her style is truly eclectic. From her haunting rendition of the Lords Prayer in the original Aramaic, to a Sufi chant, Latin verse, Gaelic song and Eastern mantra, Ashana blends Western and ethnic instruments with the unique drone of the crystal singing bowls to create the ultimate transcendent music for healing, relaxation and meditation.
A renowned Crystal Bowl Master, Ashana’s live performances have been called “powerful” and “deeply transformative” and she travels across the US, Canada and abroad offering concerts, crystalline activations and sound healing workshops. With her producer, Thomas Barquee (Snatam Kaur, Seal), Ashana has received international acclaim for her CD recordings All Is Forgiven, Jewels of Silence, Beloved and her latest release, The Infinite Heart. In October of 2012, she will release a healing mantra CD with Spirit Voyage Music as part of their popular “Meditations for Transformation” series. Her intuitive and unique vocal improvisations and crystal bowl playing are featured extensively in the documentary film “The Sound You Feel: Vibrations of Healing,” released by Beyond Words. And renowned workshop leaders and spiritual visionaries around the globe feature her music widely in their programs and spoken word recordings.
Ashana is passionate about nurturing the creative process to bring through just the right words, sound, melody, feeling and expression. Her musical calling came at an early age as a young girl growing up in the Bronx, in New York City. She began singing in churches and as time went on, synagogues, temples, sweat lodges and gurdwaras. Classically trained, she spent many years exploring a wide variety of musical genres including jazz, pop, gospel, musical theater as well as composing and teaching children’s music. From ancient to contemporary she immersed herself, graduating with a degree in vocal studies from the Mannes College of Music in New York City. She discovered yoga, chanting and mantra in the early 80’s and is a devoted student of Kundalini yoga and meditation. For the last fifteen years, she has been on a deeply personal journey, studying and exploring sound healing and the voice. During this period she began working with quartz crystal singing bowls, instruments that are often used in contemplative practices to support healing, balance and well-being. Bringing these extraordinary sounds into her music and the lives of others is, Ashana reflects, “my destiny.”

About James Kawainui:
James Kawainui is a native Hawaiian healer who draws his gifts from an ancient lineage that goes back over 20 generations on Hawaii Island. The “ha,” as it is known in Hawaii, was passed to him by his grandmother at a very early age. He grew up down the road from one of Hawaii’s best loved healers, Aunty Margaret, and eventually came to study with her where he learned the art of lomilomi. For several years, he lived in New Zealand where he was recognized by a Maori Elder as a “tuakana,” a long lost relative come home. He became a student of the wananga where he learned romiromi (alignment of the body), mirimiri (spiritual counseling) and haputanga (midwifery). James eventually returned to Hawaii and was then guided by his kupunas (ancestors) to go to the Mainland to develop and offer his work. During this time, he trained in Mayan Light Language, Sacred Geometry and Divine Intervention as taught by an unbroken lineage of 24 generations of Mexican curanderas.
James currently lives in Mount Shasta, California and travels the globe extensively, offering his work alongside his wife, musician and crystal bowl artist, Ashana.
